Tamarind not only tastes delicious in food recipes, but since its packed with nutrients and vitamins, is a SUPER charged fruit for glowing, clear, healthy skin. Apart from magnesium, potassium, iron and phosphorous this amazing fruit contains niacin, vitamin C, calcium and copper – all used in expensive beauty products.

Off the top of my head I can think of at least ten Tamarind uses for health and hair but today we are sticking with beauty so here are three that will make you look like you spent the day at a celebrity spa.

Tamarind is a wonderful source of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA), one of the major constituents of various leading exfoliating creams available in the market. They eliminate impurities that lie deep inside the skin and unclog clogged skin pores. Therefore, let’s start with an exfoliator:

You Will Need

  • 1 teaspoon tamarind pulp
  • 1 teaspoon rock salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk cream/yogurt

What To Do

  1. Mix one teaspoon of tamarind extract with one teaspoon of rock salt and one tablespoon of milk cream or yogurt. (milk works well for dry skin, yoghurt for oily skin)
  2. Apply the mixture evenly on your face. Using your fingers, massage in gentle, circular motion for 5-7 minutes to eliminate the dead cells..Repeat this process twice a week to close open pores and tighten skin.

Tamarind Natural Anti-aging Mask

The reason why anti-aging products are such a hit is that everyone wants skin that doesn’t show age but there is no need to spend lots of money trying to hold back the years when nearly everything we need is in the kitchen. Some assume I must have had extensive plastic surgery for my skin to look so good at 70 but that couldn’t be further from the truth and in my mind, you can’t beat natural homemade products. This anti-aging mask (using Tamarind pulp) is particularly beneficial since the various acids, antioxidants and vitamins it contains are those which combat free radicals (the cause of premature aging).

You Will Need

  • 1 tablespoon tamarind pulp
  • 1 tablespoon gram flour
  • 1 teaspoon semolina
  • 1 teaspoon honey

What To Do

  1. Mix all the ingredients to form a fine paste.
  2. Apply this paste on freshly cleansed face. Leave it on for 20 minutes.
  3. Wash off with lots of warm water to remove every trace.
  4. Repeat once a week.

Natural Tamarind Skin Toner

What can I say apart from MARVELLOUS?  This toner improves fine lines, coarse and dull skin, skin tightness, and is known as a treatment for cold sores although I have no personal experience of the last since I don’t get them.

You Will Need

  • 60 grams tamarind pulp
  •  8 teaspoons green tea

What To Do

  1. Add 60 grams of tamarind to boiling hot water and simmer for about 15 minutes.
  2. Add 8 teaspoons of green tea to the water and simmer for another 5 minutes.
  3. Strain both the liquids and mix well.
  4. Allow the mixture to cool, keep in refrigerator (preferably in glass bottle with squirter. However if you can’t find one of those, a plastic bottle will do as a substitute). Give your  face and neck a good squirt every morning on clean skin. For reference, the above stated quantities last for around seven days.
