I am convinced that beetroots will soon be named THE major superfood but if you don’t know about the extra health and skin benefits of FERMENTED beetroots, read on. Fermenting your beets rather than eating them raw gives you all the health-boosting benefits of raw beets but they become even more bioavailable through fermentation since they contain beneficial bacteria and enzymes your gut will love you for.
Beet kvass (as it’s called) has been used for many centuries in Russia, Ukraine and other eastern European countries where it’s consumed therapeutically as a high boost health tonic. It strengthens the immune function, cleanses blood, combats fatigue, treats kidney stones, allergies and digestive problems. Research suggests beet kvass may even improve the appearance of age spots, thicken hair and minimize graying of hair, (most important for us beauty divas).
If that’s not enough to get you excited, beet kvass will also lower your stroke risk and is an excellent remedy for pregnant women. Why? Because beets contain Folate and the lack of folate during pregnancy raises the risk of birth defects, while the blood-cleansing properties of beet kvass is known to help alleviate morning sickness.
I experimented with a number of Kvass recipes over the past year, and am convinced kvass may have helped cure my skin cancer. The taste is acquired and has a ‘beery’ tang about it but the vast benefits outweigh the initial getting used to it and this recipe is among the best. So here’s what you need to buy and how to make.
- medium beets, peeled and chopped into 1 inch cubes
¼ white cabbage, chopped
½ onion, chopped
- tbsp sea salt
¼ cup natural protein whey. (Whey contains lactose, vitamins, protein and minerals that hugely boost immune system. You can buy in any major health store or online at Amazon).
What to Do
Add onion and cabbage to a big glass jar
Add the beets on top of onion and cabbage to weigh them down.
Add salt and whey
Cover with filtered water, leaving an inch or two between the top of the jar
Close jar and leave in a cool dark cupboard for 5 – 7 days then transfer to fridge.
Now you are ready to join the fittest of the fit and have the clear, glowing skin you always dreamed of. I do so much other stuff to keep me healthy and my skin in tip top condition that I don’t drink Kvass day in and day out. What I tend to do is make a jar of every month and have three shots a day (between meals) until I run out.
Give Kvass a try – because – you’re worth it. Stay blessed.
